The southern California Section is planning a golf tournament to benefit the AEG Foundation - Martin L. Stout Scholarship. As stated on the AEG website: "The Martin L. Stout Scholarship is in memory of Dr. Martin L. Stout, Professor of Geology at California State University, Los Angeles from 1960 to 1990. He is remembered by all of his students for his passionate and insightful instruction in engineering geology. Dr. Stout guided his students through and beyond the fundamentals of engineering geology, often using KodachromeT slides for illustration. He emphasized hands-on experience and critical thought. Dr. Stout was well known for his expertise on mega landslides, his worldly travels, his good humor, and his gracious manner. This scholarship supports his legacy."

The Stout Scholarship is currently under-funded and cannot support itself. A generous donor is providing pass-through funds until such time as the principal generates enough interest to support the scholarship. AEG's goal is to reach a minimum principal of $50,000 by the October 2007 National Meeting to be held at the Sheraton Universal in Universal City. This is a very worthwhile goal for the Section to undertake, and I hope all who are able will participate. The tournament is scheduled for the beginning of August, and more information is available on the flyer below.
