As our infrastructures both expand and age, and as weather patterns seem to be presenting more severe conditions, landslides, rockfall, scour, sinkholes, avalanches, erosion and kindred problems on our nation's infrastructure seem to be increasing. Add in all the construction and maintenance on rail, pipelines and transmission lines related to our new quest for energy independence, and add in the needs and growth in our mining industries, the negative impacts of geohazards that inhibit orderly and scheduled commuting and commerce are enormous. This presentation provides an overview of some of the latest tools and technologies that can be incorporated in finding ways to more effectively, efficiently, and economically deal with the wide range of geohazards. The presentation concludes with recent local project case studies using purpose built soil nail launchers and drilling equipment.
